The Fort Hunter Liggett Visitor Center is open Mon-Fri 6:00am to 3:00pm unless otherwise posted. All visitors without a pass must report here prior to the front gate; proceed to gate when not open.
This is also the only location where weapons registrations are processed, hours are from 9:30am to 2:30pm. For information on base access and weapon registration please call 831-386-3875.

Fishing and Hunting Weekly Update

Harvest reporting

All hunters must file a harvest report listing each animal harvested before checking out of the hunting area.

Blaze Orange

Everyone in the hunting areas, both hunters and visitors must wear 100 square inches of visible blaze orange, such as a hat or vest, as required by FHL policy. Camouflage blaze orange is permitted.

Register Weapons

To hunt anywhere on Fort Hunter Liggett, and to bring weapons through the gate into the cantonment area, all weapons must be registered with the Fort Hunter Liggett Police Department. See links at right for information and registration form.

Hunting Area Information

Information about which hunting and fishing areas are available each weekend is usually posted on this page and on the recorded information phone line, 831-386-3310, after 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Non-lead ammunition only

Non-lead ammunition - bullets, sabots, slugs shotgun shells - is required for all hunting with all firearms, regardless of calibers or gauge.

Weekday Hunting

During daylight savings time, weekday hunting is permitted from 1700 – 2100 ONLY. Hunters can preregister for that day ONLY beginning at 1600.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND WEAPONS REGISTRATION APPLICATIONS TO FMWR – HUNTING PERMIT REGISTRATION. WEAPONS REGISTRATION APPLICATIONS ARE SENT TO LAW ENFORCEMENT.

Due to training, the J-10 Apprentice Deer Hunt has been rescheduled to take place on November 10, 11, 12, 18 and 19.

This week’s hunting and fishing areas

Hunting and fishing areas may be closed without notice due to military installation decision. If that happens, you can check back into another area with the Teletrac system, if others remain open.

If Rec trac / Hunt trac systems are down you may sign-in / out via paper registration at Hunt shack Bldg. 191 Bradly Rd. or the Recreation center Bldg. 287 Infantry Rd.

When Hunt shack is closed you may process your permits in the Recreation Center Building #287 Infantry Rd.

Hunting opportunities for 20-27 Oct 2017 are: Coyote, Pig, Eurasian Collared Dove, Jackrabbit, Quail, Cottontail and Deer.
